Management of Controlled Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer (CFCs, HCFCs & HALON) (REGULATION (EU) 2024/590 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 7 February 2024 on substances that deplete the ozone layer and repealing Regulation (EC) No 1005/2009)
Since 2008 at Intergeo Hellas we have been active in the field of management for disposal/recovery of ozone depleting substances such as CFCs, HCFCs (FREON) and Halon.
We are licensed to store and place on the market quantities of HALON fire extinguishing material for critical uses under European Regulation 1005/2009, as amended by European Regulation 744/2010 – Annex VI.
Intergeo Hellas is the only Greek HALON BANK.
Controlled Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer
Controlled substances belonging to the category of CFCs, HCFCs are mainly found in refrigeration and air conditioning systems. For their management as waste they are classified under the European Waste Catalogue (EWC) code:
- 14 06 01*/ chlorofluorocarbons CFCs, HCFCs
HALONs are mainly found in automatic extinguishing systems and fire extinguishers. For their management as waste they are classified under the European Waste Catalogue (EWC) code:
- 16 05 04*/ gases in pressure containers (including salts) containing dangerous substances
Legislative Framework
The management of controlled substances is governed by the following applicable legislation:
Regulation (EU) 2024/590 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 7 February 2024 on substances that deplete the ozone layer.
Regulation (EU) No 744/2010 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 August 2010 amending Regulation (EC) No 1005/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council on substances that deplete the ozone layer as regards critical uses of halons.
Regulation (EC) No 2037/2000 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 29 June 2000 on substances that deplete the ozone layer.
Regulation (EC) No 1804/2003 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 22 September 2003.
Decree No 37411/1829/E103 laying down the principles, measures and procedures for implementing Regulation (EC) No 2037/2000 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 29 June 2000 on substances that deplete the ozone layer.
Which require that the substances concerned be recovered, recycled, quality restored or disposed of for destruction to licensed recovery, recycling, quality restoration, final disposal or disposed of for critical users listed in Annex VI of Regulation (EU) No 744/2010.
